DRDO said in a statement that 3D Printing process has been used in designing and prototyping of various parts of the pistol including trigger components made by metal 3D printing.

Significance

The weapon has a huge potential in the Armed forces as it can be used as a personal weapon by commanders, tank and aircraft crews for various missions including close quarter battle, counter insurgency and counter-terrorism operations.

The weapon will also find huge employability with the central and state police organizations as well as VIP protection duties and Policing.

Key Highlights

DRDO's Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) in Pune and Army's infantry school in Mhow jointly developed and designed the pistol.

The pistol has been developed in a record time of four months.

It is likely to have production cost under Rs 50,000 each.

It also likely to be considered as a potential for exports.

The machine pistol has an upper receiver made from aircraft-grade aluminium and a lower receiver from carbon fibre and fires the in-service 9mm ammunition.

The development is a small step to achieving self reliance in the defence sector in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of Aatmnirbhar Bharat .
