Indian Railways to start Mobile Payment Ticketing Facility

Indian railway will start the services of booking travel tickets through SMS. The services will start from July 2013.

Indian RailwaysIndian Railways on 11 June 2013 decided to start offering train tickets via mobile SMS. The services of IRCTC, the subsidiary of Indian Railways will come into effect from July 2013. The fees that will be charged to avail the services will be around 0.15 to 0.25 US dollars.  

 To book the tickets through this service, the traveler of Indian railway will have to get his mobile number and bank account information registered first an further the banks will provide a mobile money identification code or MMID, and password to authorize payments.

To book a train, the passenger will just have to send the information of travel as in train number, destination and travel date to the IRCTC after which a transaction ID will be received by the sender on his mobile. Then he will have to send another SMS with message PAY followed by the ID, MMID received from the bank and the password.
