A meeting of the International Mathematical Union was held on 16 and 17 August 2010 in Bangalore on the eve of the International Congress of Mathematicians scheduled to begin in Hyderabad from 19 August 2010. In the meeting the General Assembly elected Ingrid Daubechies of the U.S. as the first woman to lead the International Mathematical Union. The Union also elected Martin Grotschel (Germany) as the secretary, and Christine Rousseau (Canada) and Marcelo Viana (Brazil) as vice-presidents. It elected Vasudevan Srinivas of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research as one of its six executive committee members. The other members of the executive committee include Manuel de Leon (Spain), Yiming Long (China), Cheryl E. Praeger (Australia), John Francis Toland (UK) and Wendelin Werner (France).
