Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated on Monday, September 30 that actor-politician Mithun Chakraborty, 74, will get the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his "iconic contribution to the Indian cinema."
The announcement was made on X (previously Twitter) by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. He wrote: "Mithun Da's remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations. Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema."

After Mithun Chakraborty was nominated for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged his "unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema" and referred to him as a "cultural icon."

Dadasaheb Phalke Award: Date
The actor will receive the honor during the October 8th event of the 70th National Film Awards.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was established in 1969 in memory of Dadasaheb Phalke, regarded as the founder of Indian film. Mithun Chakraborty will be the 54th winner of the award.

Mithun Chakraborty: Disco Dancer of Bollywood
Born in Kolkata, Mithun Chakraborty made his acting debut with the movie Mrigayaa in 1976, for which he was awarded the National Film Award for Best Actor. Mithun went on to win two more National Film Awards in the following years for his performances in Swami Vivekananda (1998) and Tahader Katha (1992). He most recently starred in Vivek Agnihotri's film The Kashmir Files.
Known affectionately as "Mithun da," the actor effortlessly transitioned between commercial and art-house filmmaking, garnering both critical and box office success.
Mithun gained the moniker "Disco Dancer" from fans thanks to his legendary dancing moves to Bollywood hits like "I Am a Disco Dancer" and "Jimmy Jimmy."
