Prime Minister Modi-led Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved establishing 12 industrial smart cities. As per the press release, the cities would be funded by an estimated Rs. 28,602 crore through the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP).
It is anticipated that the project will create around 20 lakh indirect jobs in addition to 12 lakh direct jobs. Clean and sustainable industrial development will be given priority in the development of cities like Agra, Prayagraj, Gaya, and Jodhpur, among others.
What is ‘Plug-n-Play’?
As per the press release announced by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) “India is planning to build new, top-quality industrial smart cities using the 'plug-n-play' and 'walk-to-work' ideas.”
These cities will be built with modern features to attract businesses from both India and abroad. The 'plug-n-play' idea means that everything needed for businesses will be ready and available, so setting up operations will be quick and easy. The 'walk-to-work' idea means that homes will be close to work, reducing travel time and improving residents' quality of life.
