ISRO to launch 31 satellites using PSLV rocket
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch 31 satellite in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh today. It will be the first space mission of India in 2018.
Among these 31 satellites, three will be of India and 28 of six other countries. These satellites will be launched onboard the PSLV-C40 rocket.
The Indian satellites are 710 kg Cartosat-2 series for earth observation, a 100 kg micro satellite and a 5 kg nano satellite. The 28 other satellites are from Canada, Finland, France, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States.
India celebrates 155th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda
India on 12 January 2018 is celebrating the 155th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. His birthday is also observed as National Youth Day in the country.
One of the greatest spiritual leaders of India, Swami Vivekananda introduced Indian philosophies of Vedanta and yoga to the western world.
He became popular in the western world after his famous speech at the World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893. He was the chief disciple of the 19th-century Indian mystic Ramakrishna and founder of the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission.
Niti Aayog to provide rankings to 115 aspirational districts
Niti Aayog will provide rankings to the 115 aspirational districts. The ranking will be done on the basis of 10 parameters which will include nutrition, education and health among others.
It will also set up a mechanism for real-time monitoring of government's development programmes by April 2018. It will create a dashboard which will reflect the change in ranking of districts on continuous basis by the end of March 2018.
Earlier in January 2018, while participating at a conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked collectors and officers-in-charge of the 115 aspirational districts to come up with pioneering innovations to achieve visible results for development by 14 April 2018, the birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar.
