Covid-19 Update: PM Modi announces full lockdown in India to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the nation. As per PM Modi, this lockdown will be active for 21 days till 14 April 2020.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation at 8 pm on March 24, 2020 on combating coronavirus outbreak in India. PM Modi announced complete lockdown in India to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the nation. As per PM Modi, this lockdown will be active for 21 days till 14 April 2020.

PM Modi stressed that is India is not able to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the upcoming 21 days of nationwide lockdown, the nation will be pushed back 21 years in every aspect.

In his address, PM Modi threw light upon the vital aspects of the deadly COVID-19 and urged everyone to stay indoors and maintain social distancing:

Combating Covid-19

This was the second address of the Prime Minister in last five days on Coronavirus, which has infected over 470 people in India with 9 deaths so far. In his earlier address to the nation on March 19, PM Modi asked the citizens to self-isolate themselves and participate in the 'Janata Curfew' on March 22, 2020, which was followed by the citizens pro-actively.

The Government has already taken several measures to control the spread of Covid-19 including ban on tourist visas, suspension of railway services and transport services and complete lockdown in over 500 districts of the country. Amid Coronavirus lockdown, only essential services are allowed to operate in the country such as grocery suppliers, milk distributors and pharmacy shops.

Let's now have a look at the recent developments in India regarding the Covid-19 virus:

- Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that no new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the national capital in last 40 hours. Delhi has been kept under complete lockdown since March 23, 2020 and under Section 144 since March 24, 2020.

- State-wise Curfew has been imposed in Himachal Pradesh.

- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced several economic measures to contain the impact of Coronavirus on Indian Economy. These measures are suspension of ATM Withdrawal charges and minimum balance norms in Savings Account, ITR Filing date has been extended till June 2020, extension of Vivad se Vishwas scheme and several other measures.

- 32 states/UTs have been imposed with full lockdown including Delhi, Goa, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Gujarat, Karnataka, Assam and others.
