Prasar Bharati employees launched a 48-hour strike on 23 November 2010 and as a result national and regional stations of Doordarshan and All India Radio ran old programmes throughout the duration of the strike. The protest was launched in protest against CEO B S Lalli’s alleged involvement in Commonwealth Games broadcast fiddles. The employees also demanded repeal of the PB Act.
AIR which has 336 broadcasting centres across the country serves 99% of the country’s population, while DD’s network of 60 production centres and 1404 transmitters caters to 94% of the total population.
