Paris Paralympics is in full swing, with India having won 7 medals in total till now, 3 in para-athletics and 4 in para-shooting.
Nishad Kumar won silver in the men's T47 high jump category at the Paris Games for the second time in a row on September 1, while Preethi Pal made history as the first Indian woman track and field athlete to win two medals at the Paralympics.
Preethi’s Second Medal
Following her bronze in the 100m T35 division on August 30, Preethi, 23, won her second bronze in the 200m T35 category with a personal best timing of 30.01 seconds on September 1.
Preethi is only the second Indian lady to win two medals at the same Paralympic Games, following the gold and bronze of three-year-old Avani Lekhara in Tokyo.
Zhou Xia of China won gold in the women's 200m T35 final in 28.15 seconds, while Guo Qianqian took second place with 29.09 seconds. Athletes with hypertonia, ataxia, and athetosis, among other coordination difficulties, fall into the T35 category.
Nishad Misses Gold by 0.08 Meters
In the high jump category, Nishad was up against world record holder and winner Townsend Roderick of the USA, who won gold with a height of 2.12 meters.
Nishad, 24, however, managed to win India's third para-athletics medal and seventh overall after clearing 2.04 meters of height, thus winning silver for India.
Third place went to Margiev Georgii, a neutral Paralympic athlete, with two meters.
India's hopes for medals in Paris Paralympics is still slive in many events. Indian Para-athletes are expected to outdo their bext performance of Tokyo Paralympics and bring more than 19 medals this season.
