A group of researchers from Canada’s Dalhousie University estimated that 8.7 million species exist on Earth. Until now, the number of world’s species, as estimated by the International Union for Conservation of Nature ranged from 3 million to 100 million.
However, the researchers said in their statement that 86% of all terrestrial species and 91 percent of all marine species are yet to be discovered, described and catalogued.
