SERB launches ‘Accelerate Vigyan’ Scheme to strengthen scientific research
The primary objective of the 'Accelerate Vigyan' scheme will be to encourage high-end scientific research and to prepare scientific manpower that can lead to research careers and knowledge-based economy.
The Scientific and Engineering Research Board (SERB) has launched the ‘Accelerate Vigyan’ Scheme to provide a single platform for capacity building programs, research internships, and workshops across the country.
Accelerate Vigyan has started calling for applications under its ‘ABHYAAS’ component for the winter session. SERB has also been planning to launch an app to Accelerate Vigyan in the coming two months.
Dr. Rajeev Mehajan, Advisor, SERB states that the vision is to expand the research base with three broad goals which are, creating opportunities for research internships who do not have access to facilities, initiating high-end orientation workshops and consolidation of all scientific programs.

The objective of the Scheme:
The primary objective of the scheme will be to encourage high-end scientific research and to prepare scientific manpower that can lead to research careers and knowledge-based economy. By recognizing that all research has its base as the development of quality and well-trained researchers, the scheme will initiate and strengthen the mechanisms of identifying research potentials, training, mentoring, and hands-on workshop on a national scale.
Accelerate Vigyan Scheme: Key Highlights
• The plan will be to organize about 1000 high-end workshops in order to provide opportunities to about 25,000 doctoral and postgraduate students in the next five years.
• These workshops will be in collaboration with premier laboratories and scientific institutions.
• Central coordination of internships in the institutions will be able to provide opportunities to another 1000 potential postgraduate students every year.
• As per Dr. Rajeev Mehajan, the issue of safe lab practices under this program will also be addressed.
Execution of Accelerate Vigyan Scheme:
The scheme will work in a mission mode, particularly with respect to its component that deals with consolidation/aggregation of all major scientific events in the country.
An Inter-Ministerial Overseeing Committee (IMOC) involving all the scientific departments/ministries and few others have also been constituted to support SERB in implementing the AV Scheme in a successful manner.
