ISRO to launch Kalamsat, Microsat-R satellites on PSLV-C44 rocket
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch a students' satellite Kalamsat and an imaging satellite Microsat-R from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh on January 24, 2019, marking its first launch of the ISRO in 2019.
The national space agency's rocket, PSLV C44 will be carrying the satellites into the orbit. After about 14 minutes into the flight, the rocket will eject 700-kg Microsat R satellite at an altitude of about 277 km.
The Kalamsat is a 10 cm cube nanosatellite weighing about 1.2 kg and has a life span of about two months.
WCD Ministry observes National Girl Child Day 2019
The Ministry of Women and Child Development on January 24, 2019 celebrated the National Girl Child Day 2019 (NGCD) at Pravasi Bharti Kendra, Chankyapuri, New Delhi.
The theme of National Girl Child Day 2019 was “Empowering Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow”. The theme focused on the objective of generating awareness on the issue of declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and creating a positive environment around valuing the girl child.
The Day aims to increase awareness among people about all the inequalities faced by the girl child in the society.
Indian Navy’s largest-ever coastal defence exercise ‘Sea Vigil’ concludes
Indian Navy’s largest-ever coastal defence exercise - ‘Sea Vigil’- which was conducted by the Navy and Coast Guard, in close coordination with State Governments and Union Territories concluded on January 23, 2019.
The exercise, a first of its kind, was undertaken along the entire 7516.6 km coastline and Exclusive Economic Zone of India and involved all the 13 coastal States and Union Territories along with all maritime stakeholders, including the fishing and coastal communities.
Railways Minister Piyush Goyal on January 23, 2019 announced that the Indian Railways will initiate the fresh recruitment of around 2,30,000 more employees under various cadres over the next two years in two phases.
This will be the first major recruitment in India with the benefit of 10 percent reservations for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of General Category after the passage of 103rd Constitutional Amendment in the Parliament.
The Recruitment will be for various cadres and minimum eligibility criteria will vary from certification from Industrial Training Institutes or Diploma or Degree in Engineering or Graduation in any discipline, depending on the post.
Government institutes Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar
The Union Government on January 23, 2019 instituted an annual award titled ‘Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar’ to mark the 122nd birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
The award scheme will recognise the efforts of organisations or individuals who work to alleviate the suffering of the affected population in the aftermath of any disaster. The award scheme was constituted after it was observed that in the aftermath of any disaster, many organisations and individuals work silently but effectively to alleviate sufferings of the affected population.
