ANSWERS

1. (a) Indian National Congress
The Indian National Congress (INC) emerged as the single largest party in Rajasthan, winning 99 seats on its own and one more with RLD in the 2018 Rajasthan Assembly Elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) trailed behind with 73 seats and others fetched 27 seats. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) showcased an impressive run by winning six seats, and Hanuman Beniwal-led Rashtriya Loktantrik Party won three seats.

2. (b) Indian National Congress
The Indian National Congress claimed majority in Chhattisgarh by winning 68 seats, followed by the BJP that won 15 seats, Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (J) with 5 seats and BSP with 2 seats. Counting of votes for the 90-member Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections 2018 began on December 11, 2018.

3. (a) TRS
The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi has secured a simple majority in the 119-member state assembly of Telangana by winning 87 seats on December 11, 2018. While the Congress came second with 19 seats, the TDP managed to win 2 seats, the BJP won one and the others won 9.

4. (d) INC
The neck-to neck battle between the Congress and the BJP in the Madhya Pradesh legislative assembly elections, which continued late into the night, ended with the Congress emerging as the single largest party. In the final vote tally released by the Election Commission, the Indian National Congress won 114 seats, BJP won 109, BSP won 2, SP won one and independents won a total of 4 seats in the state’s 230-member house.

5. (c) MNF
The Mizo National Front, a former ally of the BJP has won majority in the Mizoram State Assembly Elections 2018. In a crystal clear mandate, the party won 26 seats in the 40-member assembly, followed by Congress in the second position with 5 seats.

6. (d) China
The 7th India and China joint military exercise - 'Hand in Hand' began begin on December 11, 2018 in the southwest Chinese city of Chengdu. It is scheduled to conclude on December 23. The exercises will be held after a gap of one year as both the sides were locked in a 73-day standoff in Doklam in the Sikkim sector of the border in 2017.

7. (c) Tamil Nadu
The Tamil Nadu Government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a full-time Chairperson for the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA). The authority was formed following the final verdict of the apex court. Currently, the Central Water Commission chairperson is holding the additional charge of the authority.

8. (d) Arunachal Pradesh
The 18th All India Annual Conference of the Heads of Science Centre’s and Museums began on December 8, 2018 in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. The three-day conference aimed to come up with strategies to promote scientific temper and to play a catalyst role for students.

9. (a) 14 percent
The Union Cabinet on December 6, 2018 approved the proposal to streamline the National Pension System (NPS). Government's contribution to National Pension Scheme (NPS) was raised to 14 percent of basic salary from the current 10 percent.

10. (b) Pune
After the approval of the Supreme Court and the Bombay High Court, a pilot project for e-payments service will be started at the Pune District Court complex in Shivajinagar on December 15 to bring transparency to cash transactions.
