Union Government approved 7 Per Cent Hike in DA for its Employees and Pensioners

The union government of India on 23 March 2012 gave its consent to a seven percentage increase in the rate of dearness allowance (DA) for its employees and pensioners.

With the 7 per cent increase in DA the total percent of DA has gone up to 65 per cent of basic pay, earlier it was 58 per cent.

The increase in DA is likely to cost 7500 crore rupees to the government exchequer.The new rate of dearness allowance will be applicable from 1 January 2012.

The current increase in dearness allowance is likely to benefit nearly 50 lakh government employees and 30 lakh pensioners.
