Sep 22, 2014 09:09 IST

The Uttar Pradesh government on 19 September 2014 decided to open Nirbhaya Centers in all districts of the state. These Nirbhaya Centers will provide prompt help to the victims of crime against women and also facilitate lodging of FIRs.

The decision of opening Nirbhaya centers was taken during a high-level meet chaired by Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan. As per the decision made during the meet, the Nirbhaya centers will be set up in women hospitals or women police stations with the view to provide immediate medical and other help to the victims of crime or violence against women.

For running and overall monitoring of these centres at the state level, a committee headed by the chief secretary would be set up. The nodal officers will be nominated in home, medical, health and law departments for completing necessary works for setting up these centers.

Apart from this, to bring all schemes meant for empowerment of women, under one umbrella, the government directed the concerned officials to complete the formalities for setting up Asha Jyoti Kendras in pilot districts. The officials have also been asked to take up awareness drives for the schemes through the State Information Department. The officials have been said that any laxity in providing relief to victims and ensuring safety would not be tolerated.
