What is the Aim of UCC Meeting?
The purpose of the meeting was to finalize the suggestions for the UCC, which aims to provide all state individuals with a common set of rules covering personal concerns including marriage, divorce, and inheritance, regardless of their religion or faith .
According to the officials, the UCC is crucial in advancing justice and equality among the various populations in the state.
UCC Journey in Uttarakhand So Far…
After the President approved the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, the Uttarakhand government set up a committee to create rules and oversee the implementation of UCC in the state. The committee is headed by former Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Shatrughan Singh, who also supervised the committee in drafting the UCC rules.
In addition, a UCC portal has also been developed, and its trial run has already been completed.
What is UCC?
A Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is a single body of rules that regulates the personal affairs of all individuals, regardless of their faith. An example of one such code is the one that was introduced in the Uttarakhand Assembly today. If UCC were to be put into effect, it would take the place of current personal laws that are based on the religious texts and customs of each major religious community.
Marriage, divorce, inheritance, succession, adoption, and other related topics are covered by UCC. The aim of UCC is for secular law to replace religious laws that govern these matters for various communities. UCC is only in effect in Goa at the moment, although a law is being discussed in Uttarakhand.
