India has declared Nagi and Nakti Bird Sanctuaries as its new wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. These wetland areas are located within the Jhajha forest area in the Jamui district of Bihar. With this, the number of 'Ramsar sites' in India has increased to 82. India now ranks joint third with China in terms of Ramsar sites. The UK tops the list with 175 sites.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has recently secured an order worth over ₹3,500 crore from Adani Power Limited to set up a thermal power project at Raipur, Chhattisgarh. BHEL is an Indian central public sector power generation equipment manufacturing company.

Indian Army's Tri Shakti Corps celebrated World Environment Day with several "Go Green initiatives" in North Bengal and Sikkim. Also, a plastic waste management and recycling plant was inaugurated at Changgu in East Sikkim. The project is part of the Army's Sadbhavna initiative, which aims to improve waste management.

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Reserve Bank of India has kept the repo rate unchanged at 6.5% in its first meeting after the Lok Sabha elections 2024. The RBI decided to retain the key rate for the eighth consecutive time in its June 2024 meeting. The MPC last changed the benchmark interest rate in February 2023. Also, real GDP growth is expected to be 7.2% for the financial year 2025.

Kamal Kishore Son, a senior IAS officer of 1998 batch of Jharkhand cadre, has been given the additional charge of Director General of Employees State Insurance Corporation. He is presently working as Additional Secretary and Director General, Labour Welfare in the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has launched a personal finance-focused mobile app 'Saarathi 2.0' for investors with an aim to simplify complex financial tasks. This app is available on Google Play Store iOS App Store. The first version of the Sarathi app was launched in January 2022. SEBI is the regulatory body for securities and commodity markets in India.

Haryana Chief Secretary T V S N Prasad recently said the state government will soon launch a World Bank-funded Rs 10,000 crore project to tackle air pollution. This project will be implemented phase wise first in the districts falling in the National Capital Region (NCR) and later it will be implemented in the entire state.

In an important decision, the Slovenian Parliament has recognised Palestine as an independent nation. Earlier, Spain, Ireland and Norway had also officially recognised Palestine. Of the 27 members of the European Union, Sweden, Cyprus, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria have already recognised Palestine.

The Ministry of Defence has recently signed an agreement with Bank of India, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India and Utkarsh Small Finance Bank for System for Pension Administration Raksha (SPARSH) service centres. After this, Sparsh services will be available in more than 26,000 branches of a total of 15 banks across the country.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has become the first batsman in the world to hit 600 sixes in international cricket. He achieved this feat during the match between India and Ireland in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. After this, Chris Gayle is at second place with 553 sixes. Also, Rohit Sharma has become the most successful T20 captain of India.
