Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan on June 20, 2020. The campaign has been launched to provide livelihood opportunities to the returnee migrant workers. A total of Rs 50,000 crores has been allocated for the initiative.
India was the 9th largest recipient of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in 2019, as per latest report of UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The report stated that India received USD 51 billion in foreign investment in 2019 and it will continue to attract investments.
India was elected as the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for a two-year term on June 17, 2020. India won 184 votes out of the total 192 valid votes polled in the 193-member UN General Assembly.
India was ranked 43rd on the annual World Competitiveness Index, which was compiled by Institute for Management Development (IMD). India’s rank continued to be low due to poor infrastructure and insufficient education investment.
The state government of Delhi is planning to build the world’s largest makeshift COVID-19 facility for the treatment of COVID-19 positive patients. The 10,000-bed makeshift hospital will be as large as over 22 football fields.
The Indian Air Force has submitted a proposal to the central government to acquire 33 new fighter aircraft from Russia. The proposal comes amid India’s heightened tensions with China following the violent clash at the Galwan Valley in Eastern Ladakh.

Turkish diplomat Volkan Bozkir has been elected as the President of the 75th UN General Assembly. Bozkir will take charge in September and will be serving for a period of one year.
