Indian Railways has recently launched the 'Rail Rakshak Dal' to assist in rescue operations after train accidents. This initiative, aimed at improving railway safety, has been well-received. It is currently being tested as a pilot project in the North Western Railway (NWR) zone. The team's main responsibility is to reach accident sites and begin rescue efforts quickly.
North Western Railway IG RPF, Jyoti Kumar Satija, said the team will respond immediately to accidents and start relief work. He added that Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw initiated this project to ensure better and more efficient rescue operations after railway incidents.
What is Rail Rakshak Dal?
An innovative emergency response system known as "Rail Rakshak" was unveiled by the North Western Railway zone of the Indian Railways. This state-of-the-art road-based rescue squad is built exclusively to handle track-related incidents in difficult and remote track sites.
Why was Rail Rakshak Dal Formed?
The vast rail network in India crosses many different types of terrain, including hills, jungles, tunnels, and remote areas. As a result, traditional track-based emergency response systems, such as cranes and rail ambulances, frequently find it difficult to get to incident sites promptly when an accident involves disturbed tracks.
The Rail Rakshak system employs specialized trucks, cutting-edge machinery, and a committed group of professionals known as the "Rail Rakshak Dal" in an effort to get beyond these restrictions.
Who Will Join Rail Rakshak Dal?
Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel are joining the Rail Rakshak Dal. This team is getting special training to quickly reach accident sites and help with rescue efforts.
How will Rail Rakshak Dal Work?
The team will be trained by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to make sure they can handle emergencies and accidents effectively.
The team will be provided with torches, walkie-talkies, ropes, first aid kits, and other tools to ensure they can give the needed help at accident sites.
Where Will the Rail Rakshak Dal Be Deployed?
Every Rail Rakshak team consists of three groups, each consisting of two individuals. This NDRF-trained team is being deployed in four divisions, so they can reach accident sites by road before the accident relief train arrives. They will be stationed at the following locations:
- Bandikui
- Lalgarh
- Udaipur
- Merta Road
During their time on the team, team members are also eligible for an incentive of 10% of their base income.
Rail Rakshak Dal is a new idea being introduced in Indian Railways to improve its emergency response system. This specially trained team of RPF personnel will handle relief efforts during accidents and emergencies.
