Kargil War Timeline and Key Events

The Kargil War timeline began on 3rd May 1999 after the intrusion by Pakistani soldiers in disguise of militants on the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC).

The Indian Army launched Operation Vijay on May 26, 1999, to evict the intruders from Indian territory. It was an example of high-altitude warfare in treacherous mountainous terrain.

The key events in the Kargil War include the recapturing of Tololing, Tiger Hill, and Point 4875.

The Kargil War came to an end on July 26, 1999. 

Heroes of Kargil War and Gallantry Awardees

The Kargil War saw numerous acts of bravery and heroism by Indian soldiers. Among the heroes of the Kargil War was Captain Vikram Batra, who was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra for displaying exceptional courage and bravery in capturing Point 4875.

Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav became the youngest to be awarded Param Vir Chakra for his gallant actions on Tiger Hill.

Other notable gallantry awardees of the Kargil War include Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey and Rifleman Sanjay Kumar, who displayed extraordinary courage in the face of the enemy.
