With IPL teams officially announcing their player retention, the stage is set for the highly anticipated 2025 IPL Mega Auction. Big names like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, and Pat Cummins were retained by their respective franchises, but others, including Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Mitchell Starc, and KL Rahul, were released and will now enter the auction pool.
This means the 2025 IPL Mega Auction will offer franchisees the opportunity to build on new talent or bid for some of the tournament's most experienced stars.

Defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders made a surprising move by releasing their title-winning captain, Shreyas Iyer, ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, they strategically used all six of their retention spots to retain a strong core of players, including their mystery spinner Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Ramandeep Singh, and Harshit Rana.
