The MTHL project, primarily funded by the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) is constructed with cutting-edge Japanese technology. This 12th-longest bridge is smartly designed to last for a century.
Connectivity
Atal Setu is a 6-lane maritime link that spans 5.5 km on land and 16.50 km across the sea. The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link is 21.8 kilometres long overall. The Maharashtra CM office states that the MTHL is an important civil engineering project that was finished in seven years. The time it takes to get from Mumbai to Pune, Goa, and South India would also be shortened by the bridge.
MTHL will also connect to Navi Mumbai International Airport and the JNPT port. Enhancing Mumbai's access to the Pune Motorway and Goa Highway is another goal of the high-speed Atal Setu bridge. With signal-free connectivity, it will drastically reduce travel time from more than two hours to just twenty minutes.
Project Cost
Mumbai Trans Harbour Link is a Rs. 18,000-crore project that starts in Sewri, Mumbai and ends at Nhava Sheva, in Uran taluka, Raigad district.

Tolling system
MTHL follows an Open Road Tolling (ORT) system, it will help to get rid of boom barriers and the long queues at toll booths. A Rs. 250 one-way car toll on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link has been approved by the Maharashtra government. The state government estimates that each journey will save about Rs 500 in fuel costs. One year following the operation, the toll rates are slated for evaluation and possible adjustment.
Speed
The maximum speed restriction for four-wheelers on the MTHL is 100 kmph, according to the authorities. On the other hand, the sea bridge is off-limits to motorbikes, autorickshaws, and tractors. On the bridge's ascent and descent, the speed will be limited to 40 kmph.

- Atal Setu is equipped with Advanced scanners and cameras to identify moving vehicles, facilitating electronic toll collection.
- MTHL features an Orthotropic steel deck (OSD) span ranging from 65 meters to 180 meters, a first for India, according to MMRDA. It is also equipped with an Intelligent Transport System (ITS), an Automated Toll collection system, and a Lightning Protection System.

- The sturdy lighting poles are built to resist the rigours of deep-sea weather. These poles are constructed to withstand strong winds and probable lightning damage. They are also galvanised to prevent rust and corrosion.
- Large amounts of steel are used in the construction; it weighs 17 times as much as the Eiffel Tower and 500 Boeing aircraft.
- The MTHL project has been completed without incurring any environmental disturbances. The Maharashtra government claims that there are now more flamingos visiting the Sewri shoreline.

The MMRDA estimates that 70,000 vehicles will use the bridge daily. The MMRDA estimates that 70,000 vehicles will use the bridge daily. On a 6-kilometer stretch of the MTHL, the MMRDA has put up visibility and noise barriers. The vision barriers are designed to conceal the view of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) from the MTHL, while the noise barriers are intended to preserve the migration of flamingos and migratory birds at the Sewri mudflats.A temporary access bridge spanning 5.6 km was constructed to facilitate the movement of labourers and equipment during the MTHL development project. The MMRDA declared in November 2021 that it would not be ripping down the bridge and would instead turn it into a platform for observing flamingos and other birds. The decision would also avoid the expense of demolishing the bridge, according to the agency.
Other than the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, Prime Minister Modi will also unveil a series of development projects worth over Rs. 30,5000 during his visit to the financial capital of the country.
