Discover how two rising stars, Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly, dismantled a legendary partnership that stood for over a decade. Read more here.
Punjab Kings batters Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly produced one of the most sensational batting performances of the season in a record-breaking partnership against Lucknow Super Giants, breaking the long standing franchise record that had not breached in the last 15 years. Their 182-run second-wicket stand is the highest second-wicket stand in Indian Premier League history for Punjab Kings (PBKS), topping the 155-run second-wicket stand between Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh in 2011.
Who is Priyansh Arya?
Priyansh Arya is a diminutive left handed batsman playing for PBKS, who grabbed eyeballs when he smashed one of the fastest IPL hundreds in 2025 and continued with his rich form with two explosive innings till yesterday in IPL 2026 season. He has so far scored a 39 ball century against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and a 37 ball 93 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He was purchased for a price of 3.80 crores in IPL 2025 auction.
Who is Cooper Connolly?
Cooper Connolly the dashing young left hander from Australia was the ideal supporting character. The Australian all-rounder was able to time the ball perfectly against both pace and spin, turning strike early before hitting the middle overs. Connolly scored 87 off 46 balls and made sure that the momentum did not go down at any time during the partnership.
Their 182-run partnership did not just become the new second-wicket record of Punjab Kings but also made it to the list of the highest partnerships by a pair that batted at that pace in IPL history. Their partnership is the second fastest in terms of the rate at which scored as compared to the 229-run partnership between AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which is the fastest in IPL history.
The Punjab Kings finally scored 254/7 in 20 overs, the highest total in IPL 2026 till yesterday, and one of the highest totals in the history of the IPL. This left Lucknow Super Giants with a huge target to chase.
The significance of the record for PBKS is that it broke the 15 year old record made by Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh in 2011. The bowlers of Punjab then finished the task by limiting Lucknow to 200 runs in spite of some late hitting. The match was won by 54 runs, which placed them at the top of the points table.
