Heavy rains continuing in the state of Bihar has driven the administration to declare for holiday for all the schools in its capital city, Patna, until 1st October 2019, i.e. Tuesday. With 2nd October being a nation-wide holiday, schools are expected to re-open on 3rd October 2019. Patna University has also postponed its Ph. Reports suggest that as many as 7 people have died in Bihar due to incessant rains. Even as disaster management teams try and manage the situation, the state capital, Patna remains flooded with the level of Ganga rising after heavy downpour. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was quoted saying that the weather department seems clueless at this point as they have been making different predictions at different points of time and heavy rains continue to lash the state.
As of now, the weather department forecasts more rain in 24 districts of Bihar in the next 24 hours. Thus as precautionary measure schools have been ordered to close until Tuesday. Incessant rains and flooding have caused the city to come to a standstill. Residents in inundated areas are being rescued by boats. The Government has also asked the air force to assist in the rescue process.
