Bihar Intermediate Education: Bihar state government has announced the suspension of intermediate classes in colleges affiliated with universities across the state. According to recent reports, the education department in a recent notification has stated that while the classes were discontinued at Patna University a few years ago, the practice will now be discontinued at colleges affiliated to other universities beginning with the academic session in April 2024.
Intermediate Education Only in HS Schools
As per reports, the intermediate education in all three streams will now be taught only in higher secondary schools from the next academic session. The education department further added that as per the Universities Act, the proposal to separate intermediate education from colleges has been included, although the same has not been enforced due to insufficient infrastructure and manpower in higher secondary schools.
In 2007 the state government made a policy decision to gradually phase out intermediate education from colleges as per the National Education Policy (1986/92).
According to the new notification, the department has built extensive infrastructure and hired 67,961 teachers for higher secondary schools, as well as an additional 65,737 teachers for secondary schools through a special initiative. Government schools now can provide plus two education.
The government earlier enacted a policy to set up one higher secondary school in each panchayat which involved elevating existing secondary schools to fulfill the demands of higher secondary education. The objective of the policy was to broaden access to high-quality education at higher secondary levels across the state consequently enhancing educational infrastructure and prospects for students in rural areas.
