Delhi University Semester Exam 2020: DU mulls 'online open book test' for final semester students in July, Get Complete Details Here

Delhi University Semester Exam 2020: According to latest media reports, Delhi University is mulling then idea of introducing ‘online open book tests’ for final semester students instead of in-person examination. The DU final semester exam can be expected to be held in July 2020 as per reports. The varsity has now started planning the future course of action with regards to holding of semester exams which have been postponed due to Coronavirus pandemic and ensuring lockdown. The exams are being planned especially for final semester students, who have their professional careers on line after clearing the final degree exams.

Exams being planned as per revised UGC Academic Calendar

Earlier in the month, UGC i.e. University Grants Commission released new academic calendar along with the revised guidelines for holding of semester examinations. Following these guidelines, varsities across the country have started preparing plans for holding of examinations. The universities regulator recommended use of simple modes of examination to test students during the lockdown, keeping in mind the safety of students.

What is an Open Book Test?

An Open Book Test is one in which students or test-takers are allowed to refer to or use study material such as textbooks, class and lecture notes or any other approved resources like the internet during exams. Such tests are conducted to help students develop an analytical bent of mind as compared to mere rote learning, in several higher education institutions across the globe.

Open Book Test Being Opposed by Teachers’ Association

As per a Times Now Report, open book tests being mulled or considered by Delhi University for final semester exams, are facing an opposition from teachers’ groups. In fact, Indian National Teachers Congress, INTEC’s Delhi Chapter has also submitted a memorandum opposing the open book test idea with DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi. The association further added such tests need to be designed in a unique manner and the academic learning also needs to take place on similar lines. As of now, neither the students, nor the teachers are ready for the sudden introduction of ‘open-book tests’ for Delhi University Semester Exams.
