Gujarat School Closed due to COVID: As per the latest update, the Gujarat State Government has decided to close down schools across the state for students of Class 1 to 9 in the light of the recent surge in COVID-19 cases. Gujarat School Closed due to COVID: As per the latest update, the Gujarat State Government has decided to close down schools across the state for students of Class 1 to 9 in the light of the recent surge in COVID-19 cases. As per the government order, schools have been shut indefinitely while classroom based learning for Class 10, 11 and 12 students will continue as done previously. Recently, Gujarat has witnessed a rapid spike in the number of COVID-19 cases as the second more aggressive wave of Coronavirus has hit western India including Maharashtra and Gujarat. On Friday, Gujarat reported 2640 cases, the highest single-day addition, as well as 11 deaths.

Decision Taken by CM Rupani

The decision to close down schools for primary and upper-primary class students of upto Class 9 was taken at a recently held review meeting. The meeting was chaired by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Saturday, in which he took stalk of the situation with regards the second and more aggressive COVID-19 wave in the state. In the light of the prevailing situation and the report presented by the officials, the state government has decided to suspend physical or classroom based learning for Class 1 to 9 students. However, for now, physical classes are being continued for Class 10, 11 and 12 students in the light of the upcoming annual and board exams.

In an official circular from Gujarat CM’s Office read “"All offline classes of standard 1 to 9 in government and private schools will be closed down for an indefinite period from Monday. Online education will be encouraged. The decision was taken keeping in mind safety of students when COVID-19 cases have surged in the state.” Along with continuing of classes for 10, 11 and 12th Class students, physical classes for higher education institutions such as colleges and universities have also been allowed to go on as usual.
