HRD Ministry to commence NISHTHA world's biggest teacher training project on 22nd August to train 42 lakh teachers

The Union HRD Ministry is all set to launch world’s biggest teacher training programme from 22nd August 2019. As per reports, NISHTHA (National Initiative on School Teachers Head Holistic Advancement) will be launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) on Thursday. As part of the programme, around 42 lakh teachers from all over the country will be trained in new-age techniques of holistic developments of the students.

HRD Minister lauds the initiative

On the same topic, Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank also shared his opinion. At an event based in New Delhi, Pokhriyal said that traditionally, India has been termed as ‘Vishwa Guru’ and Indian teachers were considered as leaders in the education sphere owing to the excellent teacher preparation modules followed under the Indian education system. He further added that teachers are the basic foundation of any society and nation and that teachers were the ‘powerhouse’ of the society who built and moulded students to become productive citizens of tomorrow.

He further added that as teachers are the primary pillars of our society, it is important that they undergo such training programmes that will help them upgrade their skills and ensure that they are trained in the best manner possible. He said that for this collaboration between teachers and training institutes is very important and that is what the ministry was trying to achieve through NISHTHA.

World’s Largest Teachers’ Training Programme

Commenting on the launch of NISHTHA Teacher’s Training Programme, the Rina Ray, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, MHRD, confirmed that the teachers training programme schedule to commence from 22nd August will be biggest such exercise in the world. She also confirmed that over 42 lakh teachers are expected to be part of NISHTHA and will be trained by qualified and trained professionals in the field of holistic development of the students.

Talking about the logical arrangements put in place by the ministry for such an extensive exercise, Ms Ray said that over 19,000 teacher training centres have been setup across the country to facilitate the training workshops. Moreover, she added that the teachers training institutes were also made available on various digital platforms including Google Earth to help teachers find them. Furthermore, in line with the Government’s Digital India campaign, teachers will also be provided their report cards online as well.
