Kerala School Hours Extension

Kerala state government will be taking a decision on extending the school hours in the state to normal timings within two day. According to state local news reports, the Education Minister V Sivankutty conducted a high level meeting in which it was decided to restore the usual timings for the schools from the second week of December 2021.

Policy regarding unvaccinated teachers

Kerala state Chief Minister will be taking the final decision regarding the schools after conducting discussions with COVID expert panel. The state education minister recently mentioned that the state government cannot encourage the attitude of some unvaccinated teaching and non teaching staff members coming to school and added that such matters will be brought to the attention of the committee which handles the COVID-19 protocols considering the safety of the children.

Guidelines mention vaccination mandatory

The education minister stated that the staff members are not being forced but they have been asked to stay at home. He further added that in the guidelines issued before the reopening it has been made clear that all the teaching and non-teaching staff members must be vaccinated.

Some of the teachers have been going to schools in the state without taking the vaccine doses in spite of the clear instructions from the authorities.

He also added that the state government and the state education department cannot in any way support the decision of the teachers to not get themselves vaccinated. A majority of the teachers are in support of the vaccination and have followed the procedure. It is a matter considering the safety of the children and the state, he further pointed out.

The education minister also added that around 5000 teaching and non-teaching staff have not yet been vaccinated.

Schools in Kerala reopened for the students from November 1, 2021 after being shut for more than a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The education minister has also stated that those who cannot take the vaccination due to health issues must notify the concerned authorities. The minister also went on to urge the public to stand with the government in ensuring the safety of society.
