School Holiday: Delhi Schools Closed Today Due to Heavy Rain

Delhi Education Minister Atishi has announced school holidays for today, August 1, 2024, owing to heavy rainfall received in Delhi last evening. Students and parents must contact school authorities for latest updates on the reopening of schools.

Delhi School Holiday: Delhi Education Minister Atishi has announced a school holiday for government and private schools in the city for today, August 1, 2024. The minister while announcing on Twitter late at night mentioned that due to the heavy rainfall experienced and the forecast of heavy rainfall continuing all schools will remain closed on August 1, 2024. 

Large parts of the national capital experienced heavy rainfall on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. The rain has prompted the weather department to include Delhi in the list of ‘areas of concern’ in the National Flash Flood Guidance. The department has also advised citizens to remain indoors, secure windows and doors and refrain from travelling unnecessarily.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena stated that officers have been asked to remain on alert ensuring minimum inconvenience to people in general advising them to act on sites prime to waterlogging.

Very heavy rainfall has been experienced in Delhi in the last two hours and the Delhi government and MCD are maintaining a close watch on low-lying areas and sites prone to waterlogging to ensure avoiding unwanted incidents. The capital reported a maximum temperature of 37.8 degrees Celsius during the day while the IMD has predicted a wet spell in the city until August 5, 2024.
