Mumbai School Internal Exams

According to media reports, a few of the students from Somaiya School Vidyavihar Mumbai were not allowed to appear for the internal examinations due to non-payment of fee. The school authorities have stated that they were compelled to stop the students from appearing for the exams after the parents were unable to pay the school fee on time despite several reminders administered.

One of the parents of a student from class 5 said that they have not been able to pay the second and third installment of the school fee and the same was communicated with the school authorities adding that the fee will be submitted by January 13, 2021. When the students tried to log in for the maths exam at 8 AM on Monday however they were unable to do so. Although earlier considered to be technical it was later found out that many of the students were unable to login and the teachers asked the parents to speak to the school management who however were unreachable. The deadline issued by the school for the submission of the fee was January 8, 2021.

Another parent mentioned that they were sent reminders by the school over the past few days but they were unable to pay the fee due to the school pressure while some of the parents were unable to afford the fee.

Parents given relaxations for fee payment

A spokesperson from the school while justifying the stand taken by the school stated that considering the difficulty faced by the parents and as a gesture of solidarity for the parents the school management has rescheduled the time period for the payment of the fees along with provisioning options for deferred payments or monthly installments. Information regarding the fee payments was also shared with the parents frequently in advance in order to help them plan their finances accordingly. The parents facing genuine concerns and those who had made prior requests for deferment of fee schedules were also considered giving them necessary relaxations.
