IIT Kharagpur develops Indigenous Technology: Technology always helps the mankingd in one or the other ways. Developing the technologies is really a task that needs patience, innovation and resources so that it can make lives of the people easier. Such developments of technology have been undertaken by the IIT Kharagpur and it is provided to the rural populations, and most importantly it is getting a hit.
Recently, the Director of IIT Kharagpur, Partha Pratim Chakrabarti flagged off a truck load of some innovative machines to the government of Tripura. In the consignment, there were five machines that were produced by the Rural Design Innovation Centre of IIT Kharagpur. Out of the five machines, four were gas beased machines and one was a dehusker. The gas beased machines were meant for making puffed rice vulnerably called murhi or murmura.
The consignment that was sent recently was not the first one to be sent but there have been earlier consignments sent to the government of Tripura. All these technologies are aimed at making the lives of the rural populations easier. There have been an upgradation in the existing technologies as well. All these technologies are developed by the two units at IIT Kharagpur i.e. RuTAG-EI and DIC. The technologies are transferred to the states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Tripura.
The machines that are developed by the IIT Kharagpur include gas based puffed rice maker, motorised pottery wheel, motorised dehusker, mechanised rice flaking machine etc. Out of all these machines, the most expensive machine is puffed rice making machine. The IIT Kharagpur develop all these machines and transfer it to the benefit to the people of the rural settlement with the help of NGO and the local government. Interstinhly, the demand for these machines is increasing but the supply is still to meet the demands.
