WB School Reopening News: As per the latest update, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has completed ruled out reopening of schools in the state in October month. She also added that any decision with regards to reopening of schools will be taken by the state government only after mid-November. Addressing concerns of students and parents about possible reopening of schools in the state in October month as per Unlock 5.0 Guidelines, Mamata Banerjee in an administrative review meeting in North Bengal said a decision in regard of school reopening would be taken after Kali Puja which is scheduled on 14th November. "Any decision on reopening of schools will be taken after Kali puja," CM Banerjee said.
Health of Students Remains Top Priority
Earlier as well, West Bengal State Government has repeated made its stand clear that student’s safety and health remains their top priority amid the prevailing situation of the pandemic. In line with this, State Education Minister had earlier issued a statement saying that West Bengal would prefer waiting for the pandemic to slow down as it was not in favour of "exposing its students to health risks" by reopening schools. The same stand has now been reiterated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as well.
Schools Allowed to Reopen from 15th October
Late evening on 30th Sept, the Central Government issued the Unlock 5.0 Guidelines, which granted in-principal approval for reopening of schools and higher education institutions from 15th October 2020 onwards. While the Home Ministry has permitted reopening of schools, the final decision regarding it has been left to the state government and local administration, who can take the call after thorough assessment of the prevailing ground situation. However, even after reopening, classes would be held on voluntary basis with on compulsory attendance. Moreover, parent’s consent remains critical for students to attend schools.
