Giving entrances, waiting for cut-offs and the entire process of admissions just takes up so much of your energy that you tend to become laid back and in the process ruin the start of your college life. However, these tips can save you from that and help you to get that perfect beginning.

College plays a huge role in shaping our personality and it is essential to realize what potential those 3-4 hold. While it's okay to fail at certain things, it is not acceptable to quit trying.

It is a common misconception that 'intelligence' alone can sail you through college and is the only quality that really counts. Intelligence alone can prove to be insufficient in the long run as you will understand that social skills and extra-curricular activities need your equal attention to make your time at college meaningful.

Here are steps you must follow to succeed in college:

1. Get To Know The Resources Offered By Your College

A lot of times we tend to underestimate and ignore our college resources. You must not do that. Identify at least the functioning of the library, the academic support committee, and the career services committee. Write to the counsellors, take part in seminars, borrow books and notes from library. These small steps will prove to be fruitful in the final semester when you will need utmost clarity about the road ahead and the knowledge of how to make a place in your respective industry.

2. Prioritize And Motivate

You have been used to a fixed time-table which was set by your parents and teachers at school. Things are going to change in college. Professors will be less concerned and you will have to make a schedule for yourself and find regular motivations. Take help from seniors and people who have already been there in your situation to make a task-list for yourself based on your inclinations and habits. It is also important to schedule inspiration because three years is a long time is a things can definitely become dull after a point.

3. Get Involved

Whether it's outside or inside the class, you should try to be involved with the activities which suit your taste. Take part in classroom discussions but try to avoid speaking just for the sake of it. Similarly, volunteer for social work and debates which will broaden your perspective and motivate you to help people.

4. Be Friendly With Professors

You might not want to accept it but a professor can help you in ways no one else can. If you get rid of the general misconception of teachers being snobbish and unapproachable, you will find that they are quite cooperative and willing to help you through studies and much more.

5. Build Portfolio

While we do not advice doing everything keeping professional career in mind, it always helps to find a balance between the two. For example, if you want to become a journalist it would be advisable that you join literary society of the college as that will keep you close to literature and help you sharpen your writing skills. You must also keep a copy of all your important assignment saved with you so that you can produce them to the interviewers at the end of college.

6. Do Not Procrastinate

The time is now! Do not postpone for tomorrow what you can do today, you will realize this better than ever in college. If anything, you should try to plan things as much as you can but not so much that it starts stressing you out. Balancing is the key not only in college but at every stage of life. This might seem too intense but you should keep checking in with your goals and ask yourself questions to see if you are on the right track to achieve what you want to.

There is no strict guide to success and it is often found that different things work for different people but with these basic steps you can rest assured that you are putting your best foot forward. There will always be times when keeping up with multiple things will seem like a task. But you need not worry as the phase will pass soon and what's best, teach you a thing or two about time management.

College is the place where you will make many important connections which will help you not only professionally but also in personal life. Try to be positive and supportive towards others before you expect them to do the same.

More than anything else, try to be the best version of yourself and forgive yourself for days when you cannot.
