Awards for India’s Best College in their Respective Fields

The three engineering colleges belonging to western Tamil Nadu of districts Coimbatore, Erode and Salem were awarded for being finest in the streams of Computer Science and Information Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Electrical Engineering.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) presented the awards to the three colleges, in association with ministry of HRD.

C R Swaminathan, co-chair chairman of CII National Higher Education Committee, mentioned that Southern colleges are dominating the awards once again in the category of engineering.

Kapil Sibal, Union minister for Communications and Information Technology also attended the award event that recently held in New Delhi.

Esteemed business houses such as Tata Chemicals, Forbes Marshall, Elico, Sun Pharma and Pennar Industries came forward to award the winning engineering institutes in acknowledgment of their well-built linkages with the industry.

As informed by C R Swaminathan, co-chair chairman of CII NationalHigher Education Committee, the exercise concerned a survey of industry-linkages with colleges in which objective scores are produced by the AICTE web portal on the basis of information collected from the survey done online and is further evaluated by a high-level jury.  A team encompassing AICTE and CII representatives to ensure that the data submitted was valid, held on-ground visits to selected colleges. Their opinion was then analyzed to pick the final winners.

For the best industry-linked institute in area of electronics and communication, PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore won. The same in the mechanical engineering category was awarded to College of Engineering Pune, while, Kongu Engineering College in Erode bagged award for electrical engineering, Walchand Institute of Technology, Sangli won for civil engineering, Sona College of Technology won for computer & IT engineering and for chemical engineering award was presented to Institute of Chemical Technology.

In management area, XLRI was announced as the best industry-linked institute. Bombay College of Pharmacy was considered winner in stream of pharmacy.
