Under ‘Digital India’ which is an ambitious project of Government of India, there would be launch of eBasta programme on July 1 July 2015 by MHRD. Under the programme there would be files containing text books of NCERT and other State Boards, which would be free to download through the help of an app. For all the Aadhar card holders in the country there would be another such ambitious project that would get launched named digital locker, under the name DigiLocker. This would enable people to secure their certificates and access them on their ease through click of a single button. These methods would eradicate the problem of fake documents as people would have to fill the online forms using the e-sign facilities and DigiLocker programme.
According to sources in the Department of Information and Technology, these are pet projects of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His office is maintaining a closer look on the development and implementation process of the programmes.
According to a technical resource person who is working on eBasta programme in the IT department, “eBasta is an e-resource portal. The app will enable one to download e-text books, lectures and practical videos and audio files, store them and access them on phones, tablets or computers even when internet connectivity is not available. The idea is to bring publishers, free as well as commercial, and schools to come together. Schools on this platform can create structured resources. For students it will reduce the burden of physical books and easy access to structured resources created by schools.”
Under the DigiLocker programme, any person who has an Aadhar card ready can sign up through their Aadhar number and mobile number. They can then secure their important documents like SSC certificates, HSC Certificates, PAN card, Voter ID card etc.
