Jul 6, 2016 18:38 IST

Both banking and SSC are the most sought job sectors presently where lakhs of candidates are applying every year. The increasing number of bank branches and requirement of fresh and young manpower at different government ministries and departments have resulted in large scale vacancies. Bank recruitments are mostly done for the clerical and officer level while SSC gives jobs in different Union Ministries.  The competitive exams conducted for both banking and SSC are quite identical in some subjects but not in syllabus and scope of particular subjects. Candidates are tested through written examination in the Quantitative aptitude, English language, Reasoning and General Awareness in both exams.

If we talk about General Knowledge for both exams there is big difference. In case of banking jobs the entrance examination focuses more on the banking aspects and current affairs, in the general awareness paper while SSC covers wide part of General knowledge includes different subjects.

Difference in pattern of General Knowledge paper for Bank and SSC CGL exam

    • General Awareness for Banking Exams: The banking general awareness paper consists of general questions on current affairs along with topics of national and international importance. The paper would include questions from Indian economy and the international economy. In other section the questions would be from Finance, Agriculture, Books and their authors etc. The most important segment in the general awareness paper for banking examination is the inclusion of Banking Terminologies. The candidates are expected to have a clear and concise knowledge of the banking sector, History of Banking, Banking Terms, RBI Functions, Fiscal and Monetary Policy of the country. They should also keep in track of all the financial changes happening in the country and how they are affecting the entire nation. In short, the general awareness paper for the bank examinations expects the candidates to prepare for the paper with Special Reference to Banking Industry. For Banking examination candidates need not cover subjects like History, geography, polity etc.
    • General Awareness for SSC CGL Exam: In case of SSC examinations there is no such special sector in the paper that the candidates need to take care of. They have to prepare themselves for the general questions related to the Indian Polity, History, Culture, Geography Economy, static GK and latest happening in the country. It is noticed in recent years SSC asks maximum number of questions from science stream to check basic knowledge of candidates on application of science in our daily life. There are also some questions from the current affairs, general knowledge, books and authors, person of importance etc. in the paper as well, but they are quite a few in numbers. The candidates are expected to have a clear and concise knowledge of the overall subjects from their school level to fare good in SSC CGL exams.

Though there are considerable differences in the general awareness paper for banking and SSC CGL exams, the candidates need to prepare themselves by keeping a tab of latest and ongoing incidents in the national and international news for both exams. They should also keep a regular update about the latest changes in the policies of the country and make sure that they have proper knowledge about the important issue at National and International level.
