In an important move, the government of India has nominated Dr H S Ballal, the pro-chancellor of Manipal University, as a member of the Medical Council of India. He has been nominated under clause (e) of sub-section (1) of Section 3 of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956) for four years. Dr Ballal is a former vice-chancellor of the university.
The Chancellor of the University, Dr Ramdas M Pai said, that they are proud of Dr Ballal’s selection as a member of the Medical Council of India.
Dr Ballal had been the chairman of the Higher Education Committee of FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) from the years 2007 to 2009.
He is the recipient of several honors and awards for his achievements in the field of medical education and healthcare such as ‘IBM Inspiring Vice-Chancellor of the Year’ award, and the award of ‘Education Personality of the Year’ among others.
