Get, detailed solutions to the questions of the chapter Electrochemistry from NCERT textbooks. The objective is to helping students regarding the pattern of answering the question as per the cbse latest marking scheme.Cbse.jagranjosh.com provided you NCERT solutions for classes 12th math and science subjects.
Q. Arrange the following metals in the order in which they displace each other
from the solution of their salts.
Al, Cu, Fe, Mg and Zn
The order in which metal displaces each other from the solution of their salts is:
Mg, Al, Zn, Fe, Cu
Q. Given the standard electrode potentials,
K+/K = −2.93V, Ag+/Ag = 0.80V,
Hg2+/Hg = 0.79V,
Mg2+/Mg = −2.37 V, Cr3+/Cr = − 0.74V
Arrange these metals in their increasing order of reducing power.
Lower the reduction potential, higher will be reducing power.
Therefore, the order of reducing power of the given metals increases as:
Ag < Hg < Cr < Mg < K
