HRD Minister, Smriti Irani who holds the chair of Chancellor in Rashtirya Sanskrit Sansthan, said in an event that Sanskrit is a language of the world and urged the experts to develop simple standard Sanskrit, which can become easily accessible and understandable for the common people.
While addressing the 5th Convocation of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan Irani said, “Sanskrit belongs to all. This is a language that unites the country.” She also pointed out that she looks forward for the day when Sanskrit establishes its rightful place in the nation and to the hearts of its people. She also connected Sanskrit to Yoga saying “it is the voice of the India’s soul and wisdom”. She mentioned that the person who is accustomed with Sanskrit can be a good yoga teacher as well. She also asked the Sanskrit Universities in the country to impart instruction to yoga teachers in Sanskrit language. She further added, “To achieve this, there is a need to develop appropriate teaching material. This can provide employment to lakhs of Sanskrit students.”
In her speech, she emphasized over the importance of Sanskrit which can be a great repository of knowledge in the country with a positive influence on the development of India. She reminded that the language was one the daily used languages in the past and in order to make it popular again it has to be used as a medium of entertainment, science, research, and education etc. in the near future. In order to do that the language has to be developed into a simple standard Sanskrit in the time to come.
She concluded “There is a great need for reorientation in Sanskrit research, keeping in view of the present needs of the country, emerging trends in science and technology, and global developments.”
