The countdown for UPSC exam is about to get over on 26 May 2013. To do some last minute preparation along with some revision, civil services experts have come up with an IAS Pre Exam 2013: Paper II (CSAT) Third Practice Paper.

Before you solve the test, here is an advice to look on the elements of Paper II for IAS prelims (CSAT).
It basically consist of six different segments

• English Language Comprehension (Class X Level)
• Comprehension
• Decision Making/ Critical Reasoning
• Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability
• Quantitative/Basic Numeracy
• Data Interpretation

The English language section of CSAT basically tests the candidates’ ability of writing English and specifically their command over grammar. It is highly recommended for the aspirant to make a habit of reading comprehension on regular basis.

Decision Making/ Critical Reasoning part of the examination tests Candidates’ ability to use logic and common sense in solving of problems faced up in modern day today administration. The questions will generally asked on situations that require you either to take some action, to explain why an action has or would be taken or to interpret what the action implies.

The questions on Logic Reasoning that are  asked in Examination are based on a short passages, graphical or tabulated information or a cluster of conditions which measures a candidate’s ability to analyze a given structure of arbitrary relationships and deduce new information from that structure.

GMA and Basic Numeracy play a very significant role in the General Studies Paper II of civil Services examination (CSAT).  This section includes the topics like Average, Percentage, Profit and loss, Time speed & distance, Time & work, Venn diagram, Problem on ages, Clocks, Simple & Compound interest, Ratio proportion & Mixtures, Partnership, Menstruation, Permutation & Combination, Probability.

To score good marks in Data Interpretation section you have to be quick in solving mathematical calculations. Before preparing Data Interpretation section, you should know the basic concepts of Percentage, profit and loss and Ratios, because most of the questions are based on the same.
