This section of IAS Prelims Exam GS Paper I Syllabus comprises topics such as ‘sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives, etc’ . After going through the IAS Prelims question papers of previous years, we can easily point out the important topics of this section. These include economic growth and development, banking, finance, budget, balance of payments, international financial institutions, poverty and related issues, population composition and related characteristics, social sector initiatives related to education, health and sanitation.
In 2014, around 10 questions, and in 2015 also, around 10 questions were asked in IAS Prelims Exam from this section. The questions that were asked in the question paper, required basic understanding of the topic in the context of current happenings. So candidates should focus on those national and international issues, bilateral relations, treaties, etc which affect basic structure of Indian economy.
A number of conceptual questions are asked, so candidates need to work upon fundamental concepts of economy and related topics. They should also try to link various events going on in the field of economy. Apart from that various social sector schemes related to education, health and sanitation should also be emphasized upon.
Many questions are tricky in nature and inadequate attention to them can result in incorrect interpretation of the questions. Candidates are advised to be attentive while answering questions from this section. They should extensively prepare this section as it is also important for the main exam.While all topics need to be covered, those topics and issues under this section should be prepared well which have profound effect on Indian economy.
