MCI Denied Green Signal for 02 New Medical Colleges

Jun 18, 2015 14:21 IST

Medical Council of India (MCI) has denied the proposal of two new medical colleges in Kerala. The medical colleges to be set at Konni in Pathanamthitta district and the ESI Medical College at Parippally in Kollam in the ongoing academic year are restricted from coming up.

This ban came after the state government failed to submit the necessary documents required by MCI within the exact time frame to start new institutions. However, the state government tried hard to convince MCI for more time, but MCI turned down the proposal saying that they will not give more time and things cannot be kept for next academic year.

On the other hand after getting detained from MCI in May to admit students, Union Health Ministry has given conditional order to admit students in the newly built medical colleges at Palakkad and Idukki from this academic year.

MCI rejected the plea on the grounds of shortage of faculty and residents in both the colleges. Other than that application of three other private institutes to start up new medical colleges and admit MBBS students have been disapproved by MCI.
