NCERT Class 7 Textbooks: The newly released Class 7 NCERT textbooks no longer make reference to the Delhi Sultanate or the Mughals. The revision aims to provide pupils a more realistic understanding of the ongoing progress made in the nation. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has prompted the NCERT to make substantial changes to its textbooks for Class 7. The English and social science courses now place more emphasis on Indian culture, heritage, and current national issues.

This signifies a departure from a purely Western viewpoint and a move toward a curriculum that is more thoroughly ingrained in Indian culture, history, and values.

Most of the material in the English textbook Poorvi and the social science textbook Exploring Society: India and Beyond is now written by Indian authors or has Indian themes, such as tales by Ruskin Bond, APJ Abdul Kalam, and Rabindranath Tagore. With in-depth accounts of Char Dham and other holy locations, the Social Science book also describes how pilgrimages transform land into a hallowed space.

Key Highlights of What is New in the 2025 NCERT Class 7 Textbooks

  1. How the Land Becomes Sacred examines holy places and places of pilgrimage in India and beyond that are associated with religions such as Buddhism, Sikhism, Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Zoroastrianism, and Hinduism. It presents important sites like the Char Dham pilgrimage, the 12 Jyotirlingas, and the Shakti pithas as components of a "sacred geography."
  2. The textbooks also mention the Maha Kumbh mela that took place in Prayagraj earlier this year, with an estimated 660 million people attending. However, they do not include the stampede that claimed 30 pilgrims' lives and injured several more.
  3. The updated textbook now includes references to government programs like the Atal Tunnel, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, and Make in India.
  4. A chapter on the Indian Constitution has been added, and it states that the ban on citizens flying the national flag at home was lifted in 2004 when the Supreme Court upheld it as a component of the Fundamental Right to Freedom of Expression.
  5. Students' strong sense of national identification and cultural understanding are the goals of the updated textbooks.
