The Patna College , once known as the ‘Oxford of the East’ celebrated its 150th anniversary on 9 Jan 2013.
While during the anniversary function, Governor Devenand Kunwar said the college was a 'light house of literacy' during the British period and had earned the reputation of being the 'brain capital'.
Established in the year 1863, it was the alma mater of Sachidanand Sinha, the first president of the committee to formulate the country's constitution.
Also, while the celebrations were on, Patna University Vice Chancellor, Sambhu Nath Singh focused on introducing subjects like econometrics, disaster management and informational technology in the institution.
The institution has been amongst the ten oldest in India.
