English language is there in each recruitment process carried out by SSC in 10th to graduate level entries. However, it is like an illogical language for many aspirants around the country. The problem becomes more complicated if you belong to rural areas. Hence, we have formulated tips especially for students from rural areas to prepare systematically to excel in English section.
English Section: Topics that are covered
If we take all the exams conducted by SSC over the year, questions are asked out of various common topics. However, in every exam, you will not face each and every type of question. Here are the topics:

Tips & study plan
Primarily, you have to divide the overall syllabus into two types:
a. Grammar part: - In the grammar part, you have questions from error detection, sentence improvement, active and passive voice, direct and indirect speech questions, Para-jumbles, cloze test etc.
b. Vocabulary part: - the vocabulary part includes one word substitution, spelling mistakes, antonyms and synonyms, phrases, idioms etc.
Therefore, the tips for this section are as follows for you people:
1.Take one basic grammar book first & revise it repeatedly: Buy the Objective General English by SP Bakshi. Finish this book first and practice all the problems. It is very good for strengthening the English grammar base.
2.Read English newspaper or novels: - Take ‘The Hindu’/‘The Indian Express’/‘The Times of India’ or any famous novel and read it regularly. Write down the new words and their meanings along with synonyms and antonyms and usage of a word in a sentence and revise it regularly.
3.Keep an eye for exceptions in rules of grammar: SSC generally frame questions having certain exceptions to a certain rule of grammar. You should have in-depth knowledge to answer such critical questions.
4.Go for general topics: SSC exams do not contain only grammar but also one-word substitutions, idioms/phrases, synonyms and antonyms, spelling mistakes etc. You can easily score in these areas if you have revised a lot.
5.For complex topics, consider various test series: There are test series available in the market that offers questions of higher difficulty level. You can go for practice mock or Olive board test series because they offer standard questions with explanations too.
6.Go for previous year papers: Do you know that SSC repeats questions invariably from previous year papers. Sometimes, the answers given by SSC are of its own league. So, keep in mind the answers as well of confusing questions. This will help you choose the right answer in the actual exam.
7.Be confident and optimistic: Sometimes, you cannot make it because of your low confidence level in English. Practice and revision can help you in sorting out such problem.
English language section is not something that requires complicated understanding of English literature but the questions are asked to test your grammar and general vocabulary knowledge. Therefore, extensive practice as much as possible is required. It will definitely help you cracking English section in SSC exams.
