Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) invited applications from male and female candidates for the recruitment to 810 Group ‘C’ Combatised, Non-Gazetted (Non-Ministerial) posts of Constable (Tradesmen). Interested candidates should send their applications till 31 July 2013.

Pay Scale: Pay Band-I of Rs.5200-20200 + Grade Pay Rs.2000 per month


Age Limit: between 18 years and 23 years (as on 31 July 2013)

(Upper age limit relax-able by 5 years for SC / ST candidates & by 3 years for OBC candidates.)


Educational Qualification: Matriculation or equivalent with 2 years work experience in concerned trade or 1 year certificate course from Industrial Training Institute or Vocational Institute with at least 1 year experience in the concerned Trade or 2 years Diploma from Industrial Training Institute in the concerned trade.


Multi-skilled candidates will be preferred except for the post of CT (Painter) and CT (Carpenter).


Selection Procedure: Selection to the posts will be done through multi-staged selection process that will include

Documentation, Physical Standard Test (PST), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Written Test, Technical test (Trade Test), Final Medical Examination and Review Medical Examination


1. Documentation (Checking of original documents / certificates): On reporting day, candidates will be required to submit their call letter / admit card and other documents -- in original as well as attested copies -- for verification. The documents will be returned after verification.  


2. Physical Standard Test (PST): Those found eligible in after document verification will appear for PST.

3. Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Those clearing the PST will participate in the PET.

PET will be qualifying in nature and a candidate must qualify in all the above events. Failure to qualify in any of the PET events will render the candidate disqualified to appear in Written Examination.


4. Written Test: Candidates who qualify PST and PET will appear in the written examination.


The 2 hour written exam will comprise of 100 multiple choice objective type questions of 1 mark each. The question will be set to assess candidates’ general awareness, general knowledge, elementary mathematics, analytical aptitude and basic knowledge of English/Hindi. Candidates will be required to mark answers to these questions on an OMR based Answer Sheets.


5. Technical test (Trade Test): Candidates qualifying the written examination will be put through Trade Test of 75 marks, which is qualifying in nature.

The marks of trade test will not be considered while preparing the final list.


NOTE: Candidate will have to bring their tools/ material required for the Trade Test.

Candidates must qualify the trade test for appointment as a Tradesman in SSB.


6. Final Medical Examination & Review Medical Examination: Candidates qualifying the Trade Test will be called for Final Medical Examination strictly on the basis of merit of written examination.


Medical Standard:

Vision: Minimum distant vision should be 6/6 and 6/9 of two eyes without correction i.e. without wearing of


Candidate should have high color vision.


Candidates must not have knock-knee, flat foot, varicose vein or squint in eyes.


Candidates should conform to the medical standards prescribed by the Force and should be declared fit by the Medical Officers of SSB.


The final list will be prepared in order of merit, after completion of Medical Examination. The result of provisionally selected candidates will be uploaded in SSB website


The selected candidates will be issued offer of appointment.

Posts carry all India transfer liability and selected candidates can be posted anywhere in India and abroad.


Admit Cards: All eligible candidates will be informed about the date and venue of recruitment test through Admit Cards. No separate admit card/call letter will be issued to the qualified candidates called for written examination, Technical/Trade Test and final medical examination. The same will be apprised to the candidate by the recruitment board and the list of qualified candidates called for above test will be displayed on the notice board at the recruitment venue as well as in SSB recruitment website


Travel Allowance: SC/ST candidates who appear in written test will be paid Travel allowance subject to production of rail / Bus tickets, original cast certificate, non employment certificate from MP or MLA or any Gazetted Officer of the locality, in case they are not employed in Central/State Government.



Application Fee: Non-refundable application fees of Rs. 50 is to be paid through a Bank Draft.

The Bank Draft should be drawn in favour of authority mentioned in table below.


SC / ST / Ex-Servicemen and female candidates are exempted from payment of application fees.


How to Apply: Interested eligible candidates should send their applications, in the prescribed format, along with filled in Admit Card, application fee DD and attested copies of required certificates / testimonials, so as to reach the concerned authority by the prescribed last date.
