Gaurav is director, RK impex pvt Ltd and founder of Nakalchee Bandar, a linen company. His initial investment of Rs 6 lakh has formed a business with Rs 1.5 crore turnover
In 2003, RK Impex started its home furnishing division spearheaded by Gaurav Kapoor. The company was a carpet buying house earlier but Kapoor saw a lot of potential in this business and started manufacturing fabrics. His love for fabrics and fascination with the handloom motivated him to get into this line of work. Three years later the company introduced products under the brand name Nakalchee Bandar. Explaining the significance of the brand name Kapoor adds, "The name is catchy and has a recalling factor. We thought of 'Nakalchee' as the fabric we work with looks like dupion silk but is polyester.
As it is imitating silk, the idea for the name came. We decided on 'Bandar' as we started our work from Varanasi and wanted something to do with Lord Hanuman. Monkeys are very naughty and thus give the name a fun factor." Now based in Noida, the product range includes one-time-use cushions, cushion covers, table mats, table runners, top-of-the bed linen, bed spreads and quilted bed spreads.
The cushions can range from `99- `999 for a set. The company being a consistent supplier for international chains in India has grown by four times in the last two years and their order value has gone up by 450 per cent. Discussing this growth Kapoor says, "Our growth has been in spite of government restrictions. Once the government removes restrictions on retail in India, the opportunity will be huge. If you are a steady supplier, the growth will be phenomenal." There products are supplied to Easy day (the retails chain by Bharti and Walmart), Big Bazaar, Pantaloons and Welhome.
