Syllabus for SSC’s All India Open Competitive Examination for the post of Junior Translators

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will conduct an All India Open Competitive Examination for recruitment of Junior Translators (CSOLS) (Group ‘B’ Non-Gazetted) in the pay scale of Rs.9300-34800 with Grade Pay of Rs.4200, in various Offices/Departments under Department of Official Language.

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will conduct an All India Open Competitive Examination for recruitment of Junior Translators (CSOLS) (Group ‘B’ Non-Gazetted) in the pay scale of Rs.9300-34800 with Grade Pay of Rs.4200, in various Offices/Departments under Department of Official Language. The total number of vacancies would be declared later. Last date to apply for the vacancy is 5th October, 2012.

The Examination will consist of a written test followed by an Interview for those who clear the written examination.  
The written examination will be held on 18.11.2012 and will consist of two Papers: Paper I and Paper II. The maximum marks would be 400 marks – 200 marks for each paper.

Syllabus for written examination:

Paper-I: The paper will have two segments: one on General Hindi and the other on General English. Both the sections will have 100 objective type multiple choice questions of one mark each. Hence each question paper will carry maximum 100 marks.

(a) General Hindi               : 100 marks (100 Objective type questions)
(b) General English            : 100 marks (100 Objective type questions)

The questions will be designed to test the candidates’ understanding of the languages and literature, correct use of words, phrases and idioms and ability to write the languages (both Hindi and English) correctly, precisely and effectively.

The questions will be of degree level.

Paper-II: This will be conventional 200 marks question paper. In this paper, candidates would be required to do passage translation and essays (in both the languages).

Translation and Essay:  200 marks (Conventional Type)

The paper will contain two passages for translation - one passage for translation from Hindi to English and one passage for translation from English to Hindi, and two Essays: one each in Hindi and in English, to test the candidates’ translation skills and their ability to write as well as comprehend the two languages correctly, precisely and effectively.

The level of paper will be consistent with the educational qualifications prescribed.
