The Government of West Bengal has established the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, under West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, Act 1975. The council is the main body which looks after the education system in the 10+2. The main function of the board is to conduct examinations and provide curriculum to the students. The administration board is run in a democratic and decentralized fashion. The syllabus of all the examinations are structured by the board and this is done to ease out the stress and make learning more effective and functional.
The board of education was established in the year 1951 under the Act of the State Legislature known as the West Bengal Secondary Education Act 0f 1950, the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) affiliates many public and private schools in the state of West Bengal. The board is responsible to conduct two major annual exams every year – class 10 and class 12. Around 10, 50,000 examinees take up the exams every year.
